During his official visit to the United States, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and US President Joe Biden, in a joint statement after their meeting at the White House the day before yesterday, affirmed the permanent strategic and defense partnership between the two countries, and announced technological, economic and other partnerships and initiatives.
Biden affirmed his country’s strong commitment to the security and defense of the UAE, and to working to facilitate its acquisition of the capabilities necessary to defend its people and lands. He announced that the UAE is a major defense partner in the Middle East, East Africa, and the Indian Ocean.
The statement indicated that the two presidents look forward to strengthening partnerships in advanced technology and clean energy needed for artificial intelligence, to lead the global transformation towards a more sustainable and innovative global economy. They welcomed the partnership between technology companies in the two countries, to provide artificial intelligence technologies and advanced digital infrastructure to countries in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa. They decided to expand relations between scientific and academic communities.
The two presidents stressed that security and stability in cyberspace are vital to the growth and development of the digital economy, and renewed their joint commitment to ensuring an open, secure and reliable global Internet.
The two presidents also discussed progress in efforts to build a more interconnected and integrated world through commitment to secure supply chains and ensure their resilience through the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment.
Biden praised the UAE’s leading role in strategic investments globally, to ensure reliable access to vital infrastructure, including ports, mines and logistics centers.
The two presidents approved initiatives and investments in clean energy, and partnerships in the field of space.
The two presidents discussed the war in Gaza, and affirmed their commitment to continue working together to end the conflict, calling for a permanent and sustainable ceasefire and the release of prisoners and detainees in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2735.
They also stressed the need for all parties to abide by their obligations under international humanitarian law. The two presidents stressed the continued and urgent need to provide vital humanitarian assistance without hindrance, in a volume commensurate with the growing needs among the civilian population throughout Gaza.
