US President Joe Biden called on Tuesday for a diplomatic solution as Israel continues to strike Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, warning of an “all-out war” in the country.
“A full-scale war is not in the interest of any party,” he said in his speech to the UN General Assembly. “Despite the deterioration of the situation, a diplomatic solution is still possible.”
Biden urged Israel and Hamas to complete a ceasefire proposal put forward months ago, telling the United Nations he was committed to ending the Gaza war.
He added, “It is time for the concerned parties to complete its terms,” referring to the agreement sponsored by the United States, Qatar and Egypt, to return the hostages, ensure Israel’s security, liberate Gaza from Hamas’s grip, alleviate the suffering in Gaza and end this war.”
