Russia’s Novatek suspends work on two gas projects due to sanctions

According to Kommersant sources, work on the Murmansk and Ob LNG projects has been halted.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday that 160 million euros (about $179 million) from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets would be allocated to meet Ukraine’s urgent humanitarian needs this winter.

She added that a fuel-fired power station in Lithuania is being dismantled and rebuilt in Ukrainewhere 80 percent of thermal power plants were destroyed.

“We aim to restore 2.6 gigawatts of generation capacity, which represents 15 percent of Ukraine’s needs,” von der Leyen added.

At the end of last July, the European Union announced securing 1.5 billion euros ($1.6 billion) to support Ukraine, the first tranche of money earned from profits on frozen Russian assets.
