Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPC) have signed a cooperation agreement to exchange expertise and enhance potential cooperation in various areas such as supply chain development, human resource development, provision of nuclear consulting services, future investment opportunities, and research and development.

The agreement is the first of its kind to be concluded between the UAE and the Republic of India in the nuclear sector, and represents an important step to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries and their efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the energy sector.

The agreement was signed in the Indian capital, New Delhi, by His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, and Bhuwan Chandra Pathak, Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Nuclear Energy Corporation.

“The agreement is a major step towards tripling global nuclear power capacity by 2050 and strengthens the close bilateral relations between the UAE and India,” said His Excellency Mohammed Al Hammadi. “It will enable us to exchange valuable expertise with our partners in India and reinforce our commitment to developing the energy sector’s capabilities through our nuclear power plants capable of producing reliable, emissions-free electricity 24/7.”

“Today, the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant provides 25% of the UAE’s electricity needs through its nuclear reactors, which entered commercial operation within 8 years from the start of pouring the first concrete until the fuel is supplied. Over the past years, the Corporation has gained significant institutional knowledge and experience in developing partnerships and investments in new nuclear projects, and we are now ready to continue the journey and cooperate with countries such as India, which are committed to the responsible development of peaceful nuclear energy programs,” Al Hammadi added.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation has concluded more than 100 agreements with 16 countries, focusing on the exchange of knowledge and expertise and cooperation with countries operating nuclear power plants to generate electricity, in addition to countries looking to launch their peaceful nuclear energy programs in the future.
