Larnaka Jazz Festival returns for second edition

The centre of Larnaca is about to fill with live jazz sounds as the second edition of the Larnaka Jazz Festival takes place. On Thursday and Friday, Zouhouri Square will welcome musicians, artists and jazz lovers to enjoy free live performances and free beer!

Acclaimed musicians of the island and new, emerging artists are set to perform at the festival. Opening the 2024 edition will be Vasilis Xenopoulos, a member of the English jazz scene, along with his quintet, comprised of renowned Cypriot musicians. A ground-breaking band of 10 instrumentalists and two vocalists, Alex Economou and Alice Ayvazian, will perform next playing jazz standards with a Latin flair, under the direction of George Morfitis.

Day two’s programme will open with Charlotte Storer and her quintet, featuring guest guitarist Olaf Lansberg. Then Greek musician Thanos Stavridis and his collaborators will offer a programme influenced by Balkan Jazz before the last band of the night takes the stage. Concluding the festival’s performances is South African Marguerita Freeks and her band, directed again by George Morfitis.

Under the artistic curation of Akis Pharmakalides, the jazz festival is open to all, whether seasoned jazz aficionados or not, as the second edition promises to be a highlight cultural event in the heart of Larnaca.
