Jordan renews call on its citizens to leave Lebanon as soon as possible

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry renewed its call on Sunday for its citizens to leave Lebanon “as soon as possible” amid the escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.

The ministry said in a statement that “in light of the escalation witnessed by Lebanon from continuous Israeli attacks, and out of concern for the safety of Jordanian citizens, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs renews its call to citizens not to travel to Lebanon at the present time, and also asks Jordanians residing and present there to leave Lebanese territory as soon as possible.”

Ministry spokesman Sufyan Al-Qudah said, “This recommendation comes to preserve the safety of Jordanian citizens in Lebanon, especially in light of the Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, which threaten the security of the entire region.”

He called on Jordanians in Lebanon to “take the utmost caution and adhere to the instructions issued by the competent Lebanese authorities.”

Israel launched intensive air strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon on Saturday, the day after a deadly strike in its stronghold in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which killed at least 45 people, including two of its senior military officials.

The raid came after a series of bombings on Tuesday and Wednesday that targeted communication devices belonging to members of the party, killing dozens and wounding about three thousand people.

The Jordanian government also asked its citizens last August to leave Lebanon “as soon as possible,” days after Israel assassinated Hezbollah’s senior military leader Fouad Shukr in an airstrike in the southern suburbs.
