Trump to Harris: It’s too late

T + T – Normal size

Former US President Donald Trump said it is too late to have another debate with Kamala Harris.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris challenged her Republican opponent Donald Trump on Saturday by inviting him to a new debate on CNN on October 23, a few days before the presidential election.

“Vice President Harris is ready to face Donald Trump once again in a debate,” the Harris campaign said in a statement.

But the former president had rejected the idea earlier this month.

By most accounts, Harris dominated the previous debate on September 10 by focusing on the issues that would most affect Trump’s ego: the discontent of his former political allies and his international reputation.

However, that did not prevent Trump from asserting that he was the “winner” of that debate, attacking the bias of the two journalists who moderated the debate on ABC.

Asked by AFP whether Trump would participate in a new debate, his team recalled comments he made in mid-September.

Trump said that day that “there will be no third debate,” referring to the televised debate in which he faced President Joe Biden when he was a candidate for the elections in June, and to the debate with the vice president.

A few weeks after the debate, in which the Democratic president gave a disastrous performance, Biden announced his withdrawal from the electoral race in favor of his vice president.

– Seven states to win –

With 45 days to go until the presidential election, uncertainty reigns over any possibility of predicting the outcome, as the race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris heats up in a number of the seven key states that could determine the winner.

The 70-year-old Republican is holding a campaign rally Saturday afternoon in North Carolina, one of the states that will see a fierce battle between him and Harris.

The former president had won this state, located in the southeast of the country on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, in the previous presidential election held in 2020, in which he was defeated by President Joe Biden.

But his rival Kamala Harris is counting on black Americans and young people to achieve victory in November, especially since her candidacy gave these two groups optimism and enthusiasm to vote after Biden withdrew from the presidential race.

While the presidential election is on November 5, polling stations opened on Friday in Virginia, Minnesota and South Dakota, where early voting has begun.
