18 new ‘smart signs’ installed in Paphos district

The Paphos district tourism development and promotion company (Etap) has installed a total of 18 “smart signs” for tourists across the district, it announced on Saturday.

The signs have been placed in various areas and points of interest in Paphos, Yeroskipou, Akamas, Chlorakas, Choli, Salamiou, Simou, Drousia, and other parts of the district.

The signs are fitted with QR codes, which people can scan with a mobile device and gain access to a “wide range” of information.

Etap gave the example of the 500-year-old oak tree in the village of Fyti, where the QR code provides information on the protection of forests, the benefits trees offer to humans and nature, the life cycle of trees, and other photographic and audiovisual material.

It added that the installation of the smart signs “contributes to the transformation of the Paphos district into a smart destination”, and said the new signs will be “very helpful” in informing visitors to the district about their surroundings.
