Mob attacks mosque-goers in Paphos

A mob of 10 people reportedly attacked three men who were exiting a mosque in Paphos on September 6, with one man remanded in custody on Saturday.

The three men, a father and two sons aged 51, 24, and 22, reported as they were leaving the mosque in Kato Paphos they were attacked by 10 people who “hit them with their hands and offensive weapons and threw stones at them.”

Paphos police’s assistant operations director Michalis Nikolaou told the Cyprus News Agency the 51-year-old suffered head injuries and spent three days at Paphos general hospital.

He added that the man’s two sons also suffered “abrasions”.

A 51-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident on Friday, and was on Saturday charged with disorderly conduct, assault, carrying a knife, and the illegal possession of offensive weapons.

He was also remanded in custody for three days.
