The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that the number of victims of the Israeli raid on the southern suburb of Beirut has risen to at least eight dead and 59 wounded, according to an updated toll.
The ministry reported in a statement that eight people were killed in the raid, while hospitals have so far received 59 wounded, eight of whom are in critical condition.
The commander of the Radwan Force, Hezbollah’s elite unit, was killed on Friday in an Israeli airstrike that targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs, a source close to the party confirmed to Agence France-Presse, while Israel said it had launched a “precise” strike.
This assassination is the third consecutive setback for the party after two consecutive days of explosions of the party’s radios.
While Hezbollah tried to appear to have responded to the radio explosions this morning by firing dozens of rockets at Israel, Tel Aviv quickly responded by targeting the group’s top leader.
The commander of the Radwan Forces, Ibrahim Aqil, also known as Tahseen, served on a council called “Jihad,” Hezbollah’s highest military body, according to the website of Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV.
The US State Department announced a reward of up to $7 million for information on Ibrahim Aqil in April 2023.
