(WGHP) — Police, EMS workers and tow truck drivers are preparing for another morning of icy conditions in the Triad.
What was supposed to be a normal Tuesday shift at the EZ Towing and Recovery in Greensboro took a slick turn for shop manager Rico Gonzalez.
“Around 4 a.m. … everything started going down, and everybody started wrecking,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez says his crew responded to about 10 calls across the Triad, including a rollover crash.
“Right off of I-40. Took us about two hours to get it back over and out,” Gonzalez said.
It was a shift Gonzalez says felt never-ending.
“I’m a little sore, but people just need to be a little more careful on the roads,” Gonzalez said.
Some calls were as far as Davidson County and beyond, but he says most of the accidents were minor.
“Bumper to bumper. Minor stuff. Ball joints popping out of people’s cars. Just a lot of different small things. Dead batteries. A lot of different things this morning,” Gonzalez said.
As the winter progresses to avoid being stuck on the side of the road, Gonzalez has a few words of advice for drivers.
“Keep simple things in your car like a jack … Make sure your batteries are A1. They need to stay in their car. If they’re able to pull over to the side of the road, pull over. Call the cops and stay warm,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez also wants to remind people of the move over law that requires drivers to move over a lane and slow down if they see emergency vehicles, including tow trucks.
