Syria.. An “important” military airport falls into the hands of armed factions

These factions also took control of the town of Maasaran, east of Idlib, and entered the Russian base from which they withdrew Russian forcesFriday.

On Saturday, armed factions led by what is known as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (formerly the Al-Nusra Front) took control of 75 percent of Aleppo’s neighborhoods and imposed an evening curfew inside the neighborhoods.

The factions announced that Aleppo would be administratively subordinate to what is known as the Salvation Government, which is the Golani government that runs Idlib And its countryside.

The armed factions are still making progress on the ground inside the city of Aleppo without any significant resistance.

After the armed organizations extended their control over the western neighborhoods, they advanced towards the eastern neighborhoods, where the eastern neighborhoods of the city are witnessing intermittent clashes with the organizations taking control of the Aleppo Citadel. Aleppo International Airport was also closed and all flights were stopped.

East of Idlib, the organizations took control of the villages of Sheikh Idris, Al-Rayyan, Tal Debs, and Al-Kanais, as clashes continued.

The death toll, both military and civilian, in the operation, which continues for its fourth day in the Idlib and Aleppo countrysides, has reached 301 since dawn on November 27.

Armed factions, led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front), invaded villages and towns in Aleppo Governorate, which is controlled by Bashar al-Assad’s government, on Wednesday.

In late 2016, the forces recovered Syrian army Supported by Russia Iran and armed loyalist factions in the region, including the entire city of Aleppo, and the opposition fighters agreed to withdraw after months of bombing and siege in a battle that turned the tide against the opposition.

Mustafa Abdel Jaber, one of the leaders of the opposition factions, said that the rapid progress was due to the lack of a sufficient number of Iranian-backed militants in the governorate.
