Minister promotes Cyprus’ maritime role in Hong Kong

Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanolis attended the Global Shipping and Trade Summit in Hong Kong, as part of the overall efforts to bolster the island’s global maritime profile and foster international cooperation.

The summit, organised by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) in collaboration with Hong Kong’s Transport and Logistics Bureau and the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, focused on the resilience of the maritime industry amid crises.

Hadjimanolis, invited by ICS President Emanuele Grimaldi, joined discussions addressing challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

During her visit, Hadjimanolis met with Hong Kong government officials and key players in the shipping industry, accompanied by Cyprus’ Ambassador to China and the Honorary Consul in Hong Kong.

She also held talks with the President of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, exchanging views on global shipping challenges and exploring avenues for future collaboration.

Moreover, at a press conference held during her visit, the deputy minister highlighted Cyprus’ strengths as a shipping hub.

“The shipping industry is at a fundamental moment, and it is important for both governments and the private sector to work together to ensure its resilience and seize new opportunities,” she said.

“Cyprus is committed to being a leading player in the global shipping sector, and we are confident that our cooperation with Hong Kong will yield substantial benefits for both,” she added.

Hadjimanolis’ participation at the summit also included dialogues with international shipping representatives and ICS President Grimaldi, addressing the future of global shipping and opportunities for enhanced cooperation
