Coventry Singers to perform holiday concerts in December

Coventry Singers to perform holiday concerts in December

The Coventry Singers will be ringing in the holiday season this year with two upcoming Holiday Concerts with the theme “December in My Hometown.”

The concerts will be held Saturday, Dec. 7,  at 3 p.m. at Cedarville United Methodist Church, 1092 Laurelwood Road, North Coventry, and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 4 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 355 St John’s Circle, Phoenixville.

Highlighting the program will be “The Infant Jesus” a Christmas cantata by Dietrich Buxtehude. Also on the program will be the Kanon for Voices by Johann Pachelbel, fun holiday favorites including “The Donkey Carol,” “Go Tell it On The Mountain,” ”Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town,” “Jingle Bell Rock,” White Christmas” and the heartwarming “December in My Hometown.”

The Coventry Singers is a community choral organization of auditioned singers who perform diverse and challenging choral music. Over its 50-year history, the group has performed major choral works, including those of Handel, Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Rutter, Finzi and Faure.

Coventry Singers concert programs also include lighter works, both sacred and secular, with a frequent dose of humor. The number of performers ranges from 30 to 40, and includes people from all walks of life. Some have professional musical experience, some are or have been teachers of music, but many are people who just love to sing and welcome musical challenges.

Director Cheryl Markofski will again lead Coventry Singers as our musical director. She is a graduate of Florida State University with a master of music degree and has done graduate work in voice performance at the University of Texas. Cheryl taught music at Owen J Roberts Middle School and she is also a noted soloist and voice coach.

Accompanist Eleanor Lundy has returned to Coventry Singers for her third season. Eleanor began playing the piano by ear in early childhood. She has taught piano and served churches in New England and eastern Pennsylvania for many years as a choir director and organist. She is a graduate of Rosemont College.

The concerts are free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be accepted.

Coventry Singers is always ready to welcome new voices. If you are interested in joining for its Spring Concert, check out the group on its Facebook page at Coventry Singers-Pottstown, Pa for dates and times of auditions in January and message them on Facebook.
