Diagnostic centres to strike and sue HIO

Diagnostic centres announced on Thursday that they will go on strike and file lawsuits against the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) in protest of planned reforms in the sector.

During a press conference, the union representing diagnostic centres (Pasydike) expressed strong opposition to the HIO’s efforts to introduce new criteria for the sector.

In July, Pasydike threatened that these criteria would effectively mean many of the centres would have to shut down as a result.

The union on Thursday announced it was preparing a series of lawsuits against the Hio, its members, as well as specific individuals within the organisation’s ranks for statements they have made.

As part of their protest, Pasydike announced plans for a two-hour strike, during which members will march to the presidential palace to deliver a letter to the president.

However, the exact date of the strike was not revealed.

Pasydike also announced an upcoming information campaign aimed at informing patients nationwide about the HIO’s plans and the potential impact of the new criteria.

Pasydike chief Giorgos Kouttoukis called on the government to intervene, stating: “You cannot  stand idly by in the face of this threat to public health.

“It is not only our industry professionals who are at risk, but also society as a whole. Access to accurate, prompt and high-quality diagnostic services is a fundamental right of every citizen.”
