EKO Cyprus holds event to grow Karaiskakio donor registry

With a sense of social responsibility, and to continue paving the way for society’s active participation in the fight against leukaemia, as well as other rare cancers and serious haematological diseases, EKO Cyprus, a subsidiary of HELLENiQ ENERGY, organised a sampling on October 13, 2024 October, as part of the “Match For Life” campaign it is carrying out in cooperation with the Karaiskakio Foundation.

The sampling station was set up at the starting point of the 26th International Road Race “Marios Agathangelou” – Cyprus Road Races Grand Prix, in Limassol. Drivers and spectators gave samples to enrich the Karaiskakio bone marrow donor registry.

The samples were taken by qualified members of the Foundation, with the assistance of EKO Cyprus staff, who pointed out to participants that compatible donors have a one in 100 chance of giving a second chance of life to a fellow human being. Subsequently, the EKO Cyprus team also participated in the charity race, which attracted hundreds of all ages.

Through the “Match for Life” campaign and the central slogan “What if one in 100 is you?”, EKO Cyprus aims to inform and raise public awareness towards swelling the Karaiskakio Foundation’s volunteer bone marrow donor pool. The initiative is part of EKO Cyprus’ CSR programme, which supports the work of institutions and foundations that make a substantial contribution to society.

At the same time, EKO Cyprus offers significant financial support to the Karaiskakio Foundation, with actions at the national level, covering the identification costs of new volunteer bone marrow donors. Specifically, samples are collected at 20 of the company’s service stations in all cities with the help of representatives of the Foundation, while additional proceeds from actions at specific service stations are allocated to support the donor identification programme.

Ultimately, EKO CYPRUS, once again, stands by people in need, creating the conditions for a better future. To this end, it thanks the public for its contributions and reiterates its call to citizens to embrace the effort to register as bone marrow donors, potentially saving the lives of their fellow human beings.
