Killers of Asheboro dad dump getaway car in Durham, are still on the run, police say

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN/WGHP) — The killers of a married dad of three and Navy veteran during a gaming business robbery in Asheboro earlier this month dumped their getaway car in Durham and are still on the run, police said Saturday.

The incident began as an armed robbery around 7:15 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the “64 Skillz” at 1520 E. Dixie Dr. in Asheboro, according to the Asheboro Police Department.

While police were on their way to the scene, they learned that a man had been shot and that the robbers had fled.

When officers arrived, they found an employee David Matthew Davis, 39, dead inside the business.

Davis, a U.S. Navy veteran, was married and had a daughter and two sons, according to family friends. He was a 2003 graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School, his obituary said.

Eight days after the killing, police released pictures of two suspects and a car seen on cameras at the business.

The photos of the men showed them wearing all black and police said they were “well-covered to disguise” their identities.

The getaway car was a 2013 Toyota Avalon with a North Carolina license plate LAH-9992.

Asheboro police said Saturday that officers with the Durham Police Department found the car during a call for service Friday night.

“The suspects are still considered at-large, and this investigation is on-going,” Asheboro police said Saturday.

WNCN contributed to this report.
