First Cyprus-US strategic dialogue to be held

First Cyprus-US strategic dialogue to be held

The first Strategic dialogue between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States will take place on Wednesday, the foreign ministry announced.

The two countries are set to sign the Artemis Accords, on peaceful exploration and exploitation of space.

The opening of the strategic dialogue will be attended by the Foreign Minister, Constantinos Kombos, and US Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for European and Euro-Asian issues, James O’Brien.

At the end of the meeting a joint statement will be issued.

The ministry’s permanent secretary Andreas Kakouris will head the Cypriot delegation during the all-day consultations.

The first strategic dialogue will focus on the four themes of international and regional cooperation; security, crisis management and law enforcement; education/ties between the two peoples; and energy, trade, research and technology.

On the sidelines of the strategic dialogue, Deputy Minister of Innovation Nikodemos Damianos will sign the Artemis accords in an ceremony which will take place with NASA online.

The initiation of the Cyprus-US strategic dialogue, agreed upon during a meeting of the US and Cypriot foreign ministers in June, with US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, set in motion annual high level meetings to be held on common themes and priorities.
