Aim is to intensify prevention of migration flows, deputy minister says

The aim is to intensify the policy of repatriations and preventing migration flows, Deputy Migration Minister Nicholas Ioannides said on Tuesday.

Addressing a meeting in Paliometocho on behalf of the president of the Republic, Ioannides said the main pylons of the deputy ministry’s policy was to prevent the flow and reduce arrivals, speed up the procedures for examining asylum applications and create appropriate reception infrastructure.

Ioannides said the measures adopted by the government have been successful in repatriating thousands of foreigners who had no right to remain in Cyprus.

He explained that this allowed for faster procedures of examining pending applications for international protection and lightened Cyprus’ load.
