Christodoulides tells authorities to speed up organised crime probes

President Nikos Christodoulides on Monday called on the authorities to speed up their investigations into matters involving corruption and organised crime.

Christodoulides held a meeting on the subject of corruption and organised crime with various stakeholders on Monday, with presidential press office director Victor Papadopoulos saying afterwards that he had used the meeting to “request maximum coordination” on the matter and an “acceleration of investigations”.

Papadopoulos added that Christodoulides had asked the police to “submit a specific proposal regarding any necessary recruitment of specialised technocratic personnel”.

This, he said, would be done with the aim of “achieving the best and fastest processing of the investigative work”.

The meeting was attended by attorney-general George Savvides and his deputy Savvas Angelides, Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis, police chief Themistos Arnaoutis, tax commissioner Sotiris Markides and others.
