HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Huntersville student is recovering after police say he was stabbed in the eye with a comb pick at J.M. Alexander Middle School by another student.
Police say what a student brought to school wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, but what she’s accused of doing with it was.
“It was not (considered) a weapon on campus,” said Brian Vaughan, assistant police chief of the Huntersville Police Department. “It’s not a normal thing to happen at school.”
Investigators say two students got into an argument in the hallway at J.M Alexander Middle School on Tuesday.
No one else was involved.
It was only the boy and girl.
Police say the girl grabbed the comb pick and jabbed it in the boy’s eye.
“No different than an adult, that if you need help, we would expect that you call the police for the help that you need and not try to take matters into your own hands,” said Vaughan.
The boy was rushed to the hospital.
Officials say his injuries are not life-threatening.
The girl was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
She was taken to the Cabarrus Juvenile Detention Center in Concord.
Police say this is a rare, isolated situation and parents shouldn’t worry about safety.
“The Huntersville schools that are specific to us are very safe schools and we have a great working relationship with the staff at those schools and it’s important that we maintain that,” said Vaughan.
Police say the school resource officer investigated some social media rumors of possible threats of retaliation related to the stabbing, but none of them were credible.
Investigators encourage people to always report those concerns so authorities can check them out.
