KNOTTS ISLAND, N.C. (WAVY) — A woman has been arrested in connection to the summer disappearance of a Knotts Island man, Virginia Beach Police said.
Ashley Walton, 35, also of Knotts Island, has been arrested and charged with the concealment of a dead body and accessory after the fact to homicide in connection to the disappearance of Martrell Andre Lamar, 42, who has not been located, according to police.
Virginia Beach Police said they are now treating Lamar’s disappearance as a homicide investigation.
Lamar was last seen July 2 in Knotts Island walking toward a convenience store, according to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.
Police are still actively investigating Lamar’s disappearance and presumed death. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to call the VBPD Detective Bureau at 757-385-4101 or call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
Because of the unique nature of Knotts Island, being separated by water from the rest of North Carolina, Virginia Beach Police shares jurisdiction of the small, unincorporated community with the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, which has a physical address on the island but does not usually staff the location.
