Investigations were continuing on Wednesday into the circumstances surrounding the road traffic collision which killed three people in the Famagusta district village of Frenaros on Sunday.
Famagusta district police spokesman Andreas Konstantinou told the Cyprus News Agency new examinations of the scene were being carried out on Wednesday morning, while police had recreated the scene of the accident on Monday night with the aim of determining the speed of the vehicles involved in the incident.
Additionally, he said, the police are continuing to take witness statements, though the two people who survived the crash and remain in hospital are as yet unable to give statements.
Of the two survivors’ conditions, he said the 22-year-old man is in a “serious but stable” condition at the Nicosia general hospital, and that the 18-year-old man is in a stable condition and is now “out of danger” at the Famagusta general hospital in Paralimni.
The investigations come after a funeral was held for the three who died in the crash, 20-year-olds Martinos Marti and Irenaios Adamou, and 18-year-old Nikolas Koutsou, at the Archangel Michael church in Frenaros on Tuesday.
Paralimni and Deryneia mayor Giorgos Nikolettos spoke at the funeral, describing the loss of the three young men as “a tragedy for the entire community”, while Frenaros deputy mayor Kostas Michael offered his condolences to the victims’ families.
