GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Kristina Singleton is resigning as director of the Interactive Resource Center.
The IRC announced Singleton’s resignation in a press release on Tuesday.
“I wanted to support our guests and staff through the shift from 24/7 hours back to our original day center model, and we have accomplished that,” Singleton said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the IRC for nearly a decade, and I remain as committed to its mission as ever. Moving forward, the IRC will look to strengthen our ties with the community and build new partnerships, and Bennita is well positioned to do just that.”
Bennita Curtain will serve as the interim IRC director.
The IRC had come under scrutiny in recent weeks following a deadly shooting outside of its doors.
The IRC describes itself as “a place for people experiencing homelessness to congregate in a safe space, connect with important services, and join in fellowship with one another.”
Singleton pushed back against criticism of the IRC at the time of the deadly shooting, in part calling for conversation that “centers around solutions – not tired rhetoric.”
The change in leadership for the IRC also comes after the decision for the facility to no longer operate 24/7 and return to its operations as a day center.
Since Nov. 1, the IRC’s hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
