Trump names Sean Duffy as pick for transportation secretary

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — It’s off to the races for President-elect Donald Trump to put together a new administration.

On Monday, Trump named former Wisconsin congressman turned Fox Business host Sean Duffy to be secretary of transportation.

Trump is expected to attend a SpaceX rocket launch in Texas on Tuesday.

But on Capitol Hill, many of his cabinet picks remain up in the air.

“President-elect Donald Trump won the election fair and square, but that doesn’t mean he’s entitled to choose extreme, unqualified loyalists to fill his cabinet,” Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said.

Sen. Durbin is speaking out against the nomination of former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz.

“Mr. Gaetz would be a disaster as the next attorney general,” Durbin said.

While Gaetz draws most of the attention, Trump recently nominated fossil fuel executive Chris Wright as energy secretary.

“With President Trump set to return to the Oval Office, we have a chance to unleash the American energy by reissuing these permits and encouraging the development of new technologies,” Rep. John Joyce (R-Pa.) said.

The House Ethics Committee is expected to meet Wednesday to determine whether to release its investigative report on Gaetz.
