SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WNCN) — A K9 team with the Smithfield Police Department received the highest honor during a recent competition, the department announced Monday.
K9 Titus and his handler, Officer A. J. Berna, won “Top Dog” at the Rowe’s K9 Connection’s K9 readiness and competition in Dover. They scored high in all of the events, including second place for scent detection and third for agility to claim the top spot, according to Smithfield police.
Police said Titus is a five-year-old Belgian Malinois who has been with Berna for three years.
“Alyssa and Titus brought the heat to every scenario and performed excellently during the competition,” Rowe’s K9 Connection wrote on social media. “This team took in the material, applied it, and made noticeable improvements. They stayed busy, and continuously looked for opportunities to get in extra reps. Keep your eye out for this team, because they’ve got big things to accomplish in their career.”
