The 12th Energy Symposium, held at the Royal Hall in Nicosia, highlighted the urgent need for swift decisions and actions in Cyprus’ energy sector.
The event, organised by FMW Financial Media Way, focused on the theme “Major Decisions for Energy.”
The symposium’s conclusions emphasised three key priorities: expediting natural gas development and related infrastructure, advancing the Cyprus-Greece-Israel electricity interconnection project, and accelerating efforts to liberalise the electricity market and expand renewable energy initiatives.
Speakers at the event unanimously expressed concern over significant delays in the country’s energy developments, urging immediate action to address longstanding issues.
The symposium featured 27 speeches from politicians, foreign ambassadors, energy companies, academics, and business leaders.
Key addresses included those by President Nikos Christodoulides, House President Annita Demetriou, Energy Minister George Papanastasiou, Greece’s Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis, ADMIE CEO Manos Manousakis, Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Stavros Stavrou, Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prontzos, and representatives from Hellenic Bank.
The conference included sessions on electricity, hydrocarbon markets, energy trading, and renewable energy, featuring insights from experts and industry technocrats.
