Israel calls on the United Nations to put pressure on Iraq

Saar said in a post on the X platform that he attached a copy of the letter to, “This evening, I sent a letter to the president UN Security Council In it, I called for immediate action regarding the activity of pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, whose territory is being used to attack Israel“.

He added, “I called on the Security Council to act urgently to ensure that the Iraqi government respects its obligations under international law and to stop these attacks on Israel.”

The text of the message, which Sa’ar published on X, stated, “It is the responsibility of the Iraqi government to prevent its territory from being used as a base for launching attacks against other countries.”

The letter added that Israel “calls on the Iraqi government to fulfill its obligations and take immediate measures to stop and prevent these attacks,” stressing at the same time that “Israel has the right to defend itself, as stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations, and to take all necessary measures to protect itself and its citizens from “Hostile actions (…) by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq.”

The “Islamic Resistance in Iraq”, which includes factions loyal to Iran, claimed responsibility on Monday for launching 4 drone attacks against targets in northern and southern Israel.

The “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” often claims responsibility for drone attacks on Israel, a number of which are intercepted by its air defenses.

However, in early October, a drone launched from Iraq resulted in the killing of two Israeli soldiers and the wounding of 24 others at a military base in the occupied Syrian Golan.
