Registration for women will be held from October 21 to 25 and for men from November 18 to 22.

Civil Defence spokesman Panayiotis Liasides told the Cyprus Mail that enlisting is mandatory and those failing to present themselves are considered to be recusant and may be prosecuted.

In the first year the requirement is to attend 13 sessions and in the second year recruits are on standby.

Liasides added that foreigners who are not Cypriot citizens can join Civil Defence as volunteers.
