Pottstown police officer shot during domestic violence call

POTTSTOWN — A borough police officer was shot Friday evening during an altercation connected to a domestic disturbance.

According to authorities, the officer responded to a call at at 4:35 p.m. regarding a domestic violence incident on the 200 block of Chestnut Street.

“Officers arrived to find William Ciccoli Jr. and a woman engaged in an argument at their residence. When officers attempted to diffuse the situation, Ciccoli became agitated and attempted to remove one of the officer’s firearms from the holster. During a struggle, the firearm discharged, and the officer was struck in the right hip,” according to a news release from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office.

“The officer was taken to Reading Hospital Trauma Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Ciccoli is currently in custody and will be charged later tonight.”
