Biden visits Peru

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – With 66 days left in his term, President Joe Biden met with the leaders of Japan and South Korea.

“This is likely my last trilateral meeting with this important group,” Biden said. “Whatever the issue, we’re taking it on together.”

U.S. officials warn, North Korea may take advantage of the transition between President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump to carry out missile tests. Intelligence officials say North Korea has sent troops to Russia in its fight against Ukraine.

As Biden approaches the end of his term, lawmakers on Capitol Hill are looking ahead to President-elect Trump’s handling of foreign adversaries.

“President Trump is one President, whether it was a Republican or a Democrat in the past, that really stood up to China,” said Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Texas).

Democrats and Republicans have cheered Trump’s selection for Secretary of State: Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). Rubio has warned about the alliance between China, Iran, North Korea and Russia against the U.S.

“I don’t agree with Marco on a whole lot of issues, but he does bring a whole lot of seriousness to the important job of Secretary of State,” said Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.).

Democrats say they’re concerned about the nomination of former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence. If confirmed, Gabbard would lead the nation’s spy agencies and advise the President.

“She has a strong record of pushing literal Russian propaganda,” said Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), a former CIA official.
