As part of the actions of Larnaka 2030, five interdisciplinary walks titled Pathkia Pathkia will be held in the communities of the newly established Municipality of Dromolaxia-Meneou. The community of Pervolia is the first to host a walk on Saturday.
In collaboration with artists, residents and organised groups, a walk will be held so participants can get to know the history and identity of the community through the narrations of residents and artistic actions. Expect to discover historical sites and cultural structures, while listening to personal stories and memories of the inhabitants that shed light on unseen aspects of past life and unknown events.
Through the Pathkia Pathkia programme, the history of the formation of Pervolia will come to life, from the development of infrastructure to the changes that have shaped modern social life. This experience aims to inspire participants, inviting them to a reflection and a collective vision for the future of the community.
Saturday’s walk will commence from the Pervolia Community Stadium at 11.45am and last about an hour and fifteen minutes. It will include various stops and touch on different interesting aspects that concern the region. For example, participants will learn about the origin of the name of the village and the crops for which it is famous, the role of women in the community by listening to Mrs Loula’s story. She is one of the first women to serve in a community council in Cyprus. Participants will then taste mahaleppi and hear stories about the lighthouse by an actor.
More interactive stops and activities will include a visit to the new theatre and the Pervolia Church where participants will paint, create collages or write ideas on how they envision the future of Pervolia. Best of all, the walk is free to attend and as there is a limited number of seats, online reservations are necessary.
