It is a busy season for classical music lovers thanks to back-to-back concerts by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Audiences all over the island get to enjoy timeless masterpieces by both local talents and invited guests and the next few days and weeks hold exciting concerts.
Up first is the Chamber Music 2 concert series that welcomes the Fusionia String Quartet. On November 21 in Nicosia and on November 22 in Paphos, the quartet will present new compositions and arrangements, spanning from classical music to the traditional music of the world. In this programme, they present an adventurous musical journey from Bach’s Chorales to the incredible emotional depth of Claude Debussy’s only string quartet, rounding off with the folk music tradition of Greece.
Towards the end of the month, and under the masterful baton of Zoe Zeniodi, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will present four exciting works composed by masters recognised as young geniuses: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frédéric Chopin and Felix Mendelssohn. The Premiere 3 concert will tour Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca on November 27, 28 and 29 respectively, joined by pianist Paolo Restani.
To kick off December’s agenda, an exciting two-day event will take place on December 11 and 12 at Pallas Theatre. The Cyprophonia 1 concert will present the finalists of the Young Soloists Competition of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. The rising young soloists, selected from many contestants from Cyprus, will showcase their talent under the baton of the internationally renowned maestro Charles Olivieri-Munroe. The winner of the competition – to be announced at the end of the concert – will be invited to perform as a soloist with the CySO during the next artistic season.
Young musicians will continue taking the spotlight as the Gala Concert on December 16 at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre will feature the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra. Later in December, as the festive season enters full swing, a fairy tale will come to life around the island with music and narration as the Freakadella, the Witch Who Hated Christmas Carols performance entertains old and young.
