Fire at housing centre for minors in Paphos was accidental

A fire that broke out in a housing centre for minors in Paphos, was accidental, it was reported on Monday.

According to Paphos police spokesperson Michalis Nikolaou, the fire had broken out on Sunday at 9.30am in an apartment of the building located on Adamantiou Korae street.

The fire service responded at the scene to extinguish the fire. Members of the criminal investigation department and the electromechanical service investigated onsite.

They determined that the fire had started in an unoccupied room on the second floor which had stood abandoned and unlocked.

Evidence at the scene lead the authorities to conclude that the fire had been caused accidentally by a discarded cigarette butt.

Paphos police are continuing their investigations.
