Govt targets wage boost for low and middle-income workers

The government aims to strengthen wages in line with European guidelines, with a focus on middle and low-income employees, the labour ministry said on Friday.

In a statement, it highlighted that the government is implementing a comprehensive and balanced policy to improve everyday life and address the increased costs of living, taking into account the needs of society and the potential of the economy.

The government has also developed a coherent policy aimed at effectively addressing the increased cost of living, it said.

The policy also aims to significantly reduce the negative impact of inflation. There are also efforts to provide specific support measures to the vulnerable by minimising the impact of increased cost of living and ensuring better wages for workers, the ministry added.

The national minimum wage has gone up by 6.4 per cent from €940 to €1,000. A decree was also issued to increase the minimum wage of hotel employees by 7.12 per cent, which includes the Cost of Living Allowance (CoLA) adjustment of the past three years.
