Open Day kicks off October’s BoC Fintech Hackathon 5.0

The BoC Fintech Hackathon 5.0, which will be held in-person over October 18-20, 2024 at Nicosia’s IDEA Innovation Center, kicked off with an Open Day, whereby the Hackathon’s goal, process, available tools and challenges were presented.

The Open Day saw more than 50 registered participants, and took place on September 26, 2024. There was a short presentation from Lia Ioannou, Head IT Performance & Relationship Mgt at Bank of Cyprus, who explained the main goal of the initiative and the importance of innovation in the Fintech sector. Ioannou also encouraged participants to join and enjoy the BoC Fintech Hackathon 5.0.

After her address, the partners who are supporting BoC Fintech Hackathon 5.0 also offered greetings to Open Day participants and spread messages of support to the contestants. Supporters included:

  • Georgia Kapitsaki, Associate Professor at University of Cyprus
  • Kyriakos Leonidou, Associate Director, Customer Partner at KyndrylDr. Demetris Trihinas, Assistant Professor in Computer Science at University of Nicosia Data-Intensive initiatives AILab
  • Helen Takoudis, Account Executive Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Microsoft
  • Dr Ourania Miliou, Education & Training Manager, CYENS
  • Constantinos Savvides, Head of University Development Office at University of Cyprus C4E

Thereafter, the Open Day discussion moved to tools, Fintech apps and APIs.

Christos Nikolaou, Enterprise Architect, Bank of Cyprus, briefly presented Bank of Cyprus’ APIs and how to utilise them efficiently.

Andreas Michaelides, Chief Product Officer at Jinius by Bank of Cyprus and Aggelos Constantinidis, Technical Lead at Jinius by Bank of Cyprus, made a short presentation regarding the Jinius Marketplace and use of the Jinius APIs.

The discussion then turned to best practices and case studies, with Marinos Xynarianos, Open Banking and Fintech Expert, offering a presentation about the disruptive tech that can change Fintech’s future.

Last but not least, George Karamanolis, Co-founder, CTO/CIO from Crowdpolicy, presented the Hackathon’s process, goal and challenges, as well as resources, examples and tools available to contestants.

The goal of BoC Fintech Hackathon 5.0 is to create innovative solutions in the Fintech domain, up to the stage of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), with the perspective of future development into full-fledged functional applications. This is the fifth innovation marathon for the development of solutions and applications in the Fintech sector!
