Marco Antonio Solís bringing his music to Reading

Marco Antonio Solís bringing his music to Reading

Marco Antonio Solís, a musician who brings his melodies wherever he goes, is set to perform on Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Santander Arena in Reading.

Marco Antonio’s musical career began in 1970 when he formed the group Los Hermanitos Solís with his cousin Joel Solís. This would become what we know today as The Bukis Duel, a word that in the Yaqui language means children.

Shortly after, the group Los Bukis was born from the duet. Then, great hits emerged that are part of the popular songbook and the hearts of the Mexican and Latin American public such as “Your Prison,” “My Fantasy” or “How I fell in Love with You”?

The hits of this legendary group reached the top of popularity in several countries, receiving 15 gold records, 10 platinum records and one diamond record as a sign of recognition and the enormous affection of their audience.

The group was awarded a number of Billboard awards and received repeated Grammy Award nominations.

After two decades with Los Bukis, in 1995, Marco Antonio began a new chapter in his musical career. He released his first solo album: “En Plena Vuelo” was presented to the public on July 24, 1996, and won gold and platinum records. In less than a week, it  sold more than 500,000 units, occupying the main places on the Billboard charts in the U.S.

Along with his career as a soloist, Marco Antonio’s talent as a composer and producer took his career to new heights, making him one of the most recognized, sung and requested Spanish-language singer-songwriters.

Marco Antonio is the only Latin artist to get sellouts at the Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Garden and the Foro Sol, the arena in Mexico City. He also has achieved a record number of viewers at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile and has been the recipient of all the awards of torches, Silver Seagulls and Golden Seagulls granted by the same audience of the festival.

In 2007, Marco Antonio presented “La Historia Continua, Parte 3,” a repertoire of his most recognized songs. That same year, the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences held a tribute in which several of the best-known Latin performers lent their talent and voices to bring the singer-songwriter’s songs to the stage.

Among these were Paulina Rubio, Lucero, Olga Tanon, Juanes, Ricardo Montaner, Enrique Iglesias, Ana Barbara, Alejandro Fernández, the groups Intocable and Montez de Durango.

More than 300 songs that he’s written have become hits performed by singers such as Enrique Iglesias, Lila Downs, Olga Tanon, Pablo Montero, Rocío Durcal and Paulina Rubio.

Marco Antonio has also served as a producer for Rocío Durcal, Olga Tanon, Beatriz Adriana, Ezequiel Pena and Ana Barbara.

Marco Antonio remains the only artist to have managed to position 12 albums at No.1 on Billboard magazine’s Latin Albums chart. In it, he also placed 30 songs in the top 10 of the Hot Latin Songs chart.

For accomplishments like these, Billboard named him Latin Artist of the Decade in 2009 and presented him with the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award. Similarly, the endearing face of the most admired Latin singer-songwriter is part of the Latin Grammys Hall of Fame and the Billboard Hall of Fame.

In addition, there is the list of recognitions and awards that El Buki has received throughout his career: five Latin Grammy Awards; 18 Lo Nuestro Awards, including the Lo Nuestro Award for Excellence; four Silver Torches, four Golden Torches, two Golden Seagulls and five Silver Seagulls, 16 Musical Fury Awards, five awards for Telenovela themes.

He also has received special recognition such as the Generalissimo Morelos Award, the Jose Tocaven Award from the Cultural Center of Michoacan and the historic Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Marco Antonio participated in the Spanish version of the Oscar-winning film “Coco,” lending his voice to the character Ernesto de la Cruz.

Tickets start at $59. For more information, go to santander-arena.com/events.
