What’s on this weekend | Cyprus Mail

Paphos, Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca all have exciting events coming up this weekend. Whether it is inspirational talks you are after, local art, beer celebrations or a trip into the buffer zone for a unique art exhibition, here is a selection of the weekend’s most unmissable events.

First and foremost, the 14th edition of the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus begins on Saturday in Limassol and for a week will screen short films at Rialto Theatre. In the surrounding area, a series of parallel events will take place from other screenings and workshops.

In Nicosia, three noteworthy events are on this weekend. The rescheduled TEDxEleftheriaSquare event will finally take place on Saturday with 10 speakers sharing inspiring stories and talks. Under the theme Symphony of Minds, the speakers will raise topics on literature, AI, education, street art, sustainability, dance and herbalism.

Meanwhile, an international and multi-communal art exhibition gives new meaning to the Ledra Street checkpoint, re-vitalising a space within the buffer zone. The Imagining Home Between the Walls exhibition opened in early October by cultural organisation Direction: D6:EU, led by Argyro Toumazou and Clymene Christoforou. It explores different ways to reimagine houses, and the idea of identity and home 50 years after the invasion and 60 years after Unficyp was established. The works by artists Efi Savvides, Sümer Erek, Julie Gauthron, Nafia Akdeniz and Anaïs Llobet will remain displayed at the space between the Ledra and Lokmaci checkpoints until October 31.

Beer lovers head to the Hoppy October Street Fest this Saturday and Sunday as Moondog’s Bar & Grill and Rabbithop.cy put on another beer-tasting fiesta. Over 250 different labels will be available to try at the parking lot opposite Moondog’s with special prices from the breweries and exhibitors. For just €3, you’ll be able to taste local and international beer flavours. Throughout the weekend, a radio live link, games, contests and live performances by Windcraft Band, Symbiosis, DJ Bkas and Fuse band will take place.

In Larnaca, the Meraki Fair will be on this Saturday in Zouhouri Square from 12pm to 8pm showcasing handmade crafts, fashion, accessories, street food and entertainment for old and young. Music by DJ Fantis will be played alongside live performances, a fashion show and a kid’s corner, bringing art to the heart of Larnaca’s old town.

For Paphos audiences, this weekend holds a bit of Latino spice. Technopolis 20 will welcome the local Cuban band Yemaya Son on Saturday night with four Latin musicians interpreting a blend of salsa, son, rumba and afro-cuban rhythms to sway the weekend away.
