Food under the lens in upcoming exhibition

Food under the lens in upcoming exhibition

The art of photography tends to take note of the ordinary and highlight its richness. An upcoming Nicosia exhibition showcases the craft of food photography as artist Nicholas Loizou focuses his lens on everyday cooking ingredients and takes viewers on a somewhat different journey.

A Taste of Aesthetics will open on October 18 at Rover Studios (MS Viewpoint) buildings on Makarios Avenue. From 7pm, the exhibition will welcome visitors with a glass of wine as they browse the photographers in the presence of the artist.

“Nikolas employs unusual techniques and digital editing that play with light, shadow, and colour palettes. A food-themed photography exhibition offers a unique way to explore the relationship between humans, food, nature and culture,” say organisers. “The photographs present food from different perspectives, whether it’s the natural beauty of ingredients or the preparation processes. The exhibition will feature images of local products as well as original artistic compositions that incorporate food as the main medium of expression. Photos that highlight the shapes, colours and textures of various ingredients as well as images that capture traditional cuisine and beyond.

“The photographs also reflect the art of gastronomy,” they conclude, “showcasing creativity and imagination in cooking. Such an exhibition can offer not only aesthetic pleasure but also a deeper understanding of the value of food in our lives.”
