The impact of former President Donald Trump’s visit to Reading on Wednesday will be felt by motorists long before the Republican candidate arrives in town.
Reading and Reading police officials announced Tuesday that portions of Penn and Cherry streets will be closed for much of Wednesday in anticipation of Trump’s 7 p.m. campaign rally at Santander Arena.
The closures of the two streets will begin at 8 a.m. Parking will not be permitted on either street, also starting at 8 a.m.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to avoid driving through the area, and warned that if they do they will likely face increased traffic and congestion.
City officials also said the Penn Street Bridge may temporarily close around the time of the event. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes into the city, such as the Bingaman Street Bridge or Route 12.
Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to contact the Citizens Service Center at [email protected] or 877-727-3234.
Doors for the event are to open at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
