The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation’s series of events Moments at the Museum ’24 launches this year’s activities with the interactive workshop for families Camila Kamilari, let’s go to Varosha, on Sunday. The morning workshop will bring together young visitors and local musicians as they embark on a journey to sing and illustrate the traditional children’s songs of Cyprus.
Inspired by the island’s music and the museum’s collections, and led by the musical group ANTAMA, children will discover the traditional musical instruments of Cyprus. They will get up close and personal with the violin, the lute, the tabouchia, the pithkiavli, observe the materials they are made of and discuss which category of music each one belongs to.
Moreover, the participants will get to know the rhythms of Cypriot folk music through active music games and listen to traditional songs and arrangements such as ‘Pyri pyri to papyrus’, ‘Camel camel’, ‘Chibi chibi to aito’ and more.
Imagination, creativity and inspiration will be flying high as young visitors will be encouraged to create images and improvised musical instruments that will reflect their impressions and experiences from this musical tour. Animator and visual artist Irini Zenonos will encourage the children, together with their parents, to illustrate performances inspired by these traditional songs.
