HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Officers with the High Point Police Department are investigating a fatal crash.
According to a news release, on Friday at about 11:45 a.m., officers responded to a crash on Interstate 74 eastbound at Eastchester Drive.
Investigators determined the driver of a Hyundai SUV was either stopped or driving slowly in the middle lane of I-74 when the driver of a Toyota van crashed into the SUV.
The driver of the SUV, Janet Edkins, 67 of Knoxville, Tennessee, died at the scene.
A passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the van was not injured.
There have been five fatal crashes in High Point this year.
