Bangladesh’s ousted PM charged with killing grocery vendor

T + T – Normal size

A court in Bangladesh has set October 15 as the date for submitting the investigation report into a case filed against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and six others, on charges of killing a grocery vendor on July 19 in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka District Court Judge Zaki Al-Farabi set the date because the investigating officer in the case could not submit the report today, according to the Dhaka Tribune today.

Amir Hamza Chatil, a resident of Mohammadpur area, had filed a murder case with the Dhaka High Court, headed by Chief Justice Rajesh Chaudhary, against Sheikh Hasina and others on August 13.

This is the first murder case filed against Sheikh Hasina, after she resigned and fled the country to India on August 5.

The United Nations, citing media reports and the protest movement, said about 400 deaths were reported from July 16 to August 4, while about 250 people were said to have been killed during the new wave of demonstrations between August 5 and 6.
