Tatar rules out resumption of Cyprob talks

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar on Saturday ruled out the possibility of a resumption of talks to solve the Cyprus problem and reiterated his position for a two-state solution.

Speaking after a meeting with Turkish Vice-President Cevdet Yilmaz, Tatar said there was no common ground for talks.

According to Kibris Postasi, Tatar said the north was “one of two states in Cyprus” and that the international community was gradually warming to this “reality”.

He also expressed satisfaction over remarks by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the need to protect the north.

Referring to the energy crisis, Tatar said he hoped that the south would agree to a dialogue, adding that direct trade, flights and contacts would facilitate a constructive process in Cyprus.
