Chester County — Veterans Day is celebrated nationally on November 11 to honor those who serve our country. The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is showing gratitude by offering free use of wellness amenities for local veterans on Friday, November 15.
Celebrations will be hosted at eight YMCA locations across Chester County, starting with breakfast from 8 – 10:00 AM. Afterward, veterans are invited to use YMCA facilities for free, no membership required. Facilities include cardio equipment, indoor pools, strength training equipment, showers and more. Veterans who do not hold a YGBW membership will need to show a valid photo ID at the Welcome Desk.
Serving Those Who Serve
“We are proud to open our doors to veterans in our community,” says Bertram L. Lawson II, President & CEO of YGBW. “I grew up in a military family and deeply understand the sacrifice made by those who serve our country.”
Lawson’s father served in the Marine Corps for four years and in Vietnam for one year. After his honorable discharge, Lawson’s father worked for the Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia until retirement.
“There are many in our community who put country before self. We welcome veterans into our branches so that we can celebrate their selflessness,” Lawson continues.
Discounts for Veterans
Members and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible for a 10% discount on membership fees at YGBW branches throughout Chester County. YGBW also waives the $99 Join Fee, with proof of service.
Active-duty service members on Title 10 may be eligible to receive a free YGBW membership, thanks to a partnership with the Department of Defense and the Armed Services YMCA.
