A model for future cities

An ideal destination
On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Supreme President and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, and Chairman of the Dubai Expo City Authority, said: “With the announcement of its new master plan, Expo City will become the new cornerstone of this growth, as it will provide It is an attractive destination for business development and unique opportunities for companies, investors and individuals looking to benefit from its global strategic location. Its positive impact will also be widely evident, as it will form, along with the development of the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Al Maktoum International Airport and Jebel Ali Port, major engines to support the achievement of the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda.”
The Dubai Expo City plan extends over an area of 3.5 square kilometers, and is expected to accommodate more than 76,000 thousand people distributed among residential areas, business complexes, and other service and production facilities that the city will include within the new plan.
The city will maintain the fabric of its structure, atmosphere and distinctive buildings, which over the course of six months hosted 24 million visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai, while developing into a global center for companies, investors, residents and visitors who share its vision of a future as a brighter, more connected and sustainable city.
Five regions
Under the new plan, the city will include five new areas designed within an advanced network system that allows easy access and movement, relying on an intelligent transportation system. The area is also characterized by green spaces, gardens, water bodies, and other distinctive urban features.
The Expo Hills area is located in the north of the city and provides a low-density residential community, while the Expo Fields area in the south will serve as a model of healthy living, with a school, sports fields and open areas for various activities.
The Expo Business District will provide a unique environment for the most innovative and entrepreneurial companies that share Expo City’s commitment to sustainability and human progress, including the Emirates Group’s Aviation Innovation Centre.
The high-density urban Expo Downtown district will extend from the Dubai Metro station to the eastern edge of the site, and includes Al Wasl Square and its famous dome, in addition to the new Terra Gardens, and the Terra Tower – a mixed-use hospitality and office building that will be the tallest tower on the site.
By linking Expo City and the Expo Valley development, Expo Forest will provide social facilities integrated into a natural environment, and strategically implement educational spaces and entertainment areas inspired by the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, to enhance community engagement, learning and well-being.
The master plan for Expo City Dubai includes the new global headquarters for DP World, and the Dubai Exhibition Center will be one of the main entry points into the city. The center recently announced ambitious plans to increase its current capacity.
The new plan was designed to provide more flexibility, as the city will follow a gradual development that adapts to the needs of the future, and key performance indicators, related to areas including biodiversity, economic growth, energy use and health, will enable Expo City to set new standards for sustainable urban excellence in accordance with the best international practices. While maintaining its goals to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
