Rhythms of Paphos: live music this October

Rhythms of Paphos: live music this October

With the new month here, a refreshed agenda of music performances, recitals and intimate concerts arrives. Paphos will have plenty to offer in October as artists from Cyprus and abroad fill the town’s theatres, concert halls and cultural venues with their melodies.

At the start of the month, coming up this Friday is a concert by the world-renowned violinist Domenico Nordio and the acclaimed pianist Mikhail Lidsky. Taking place at Markideion Theatre, the concert is part of the Technopolis 20 Classics series and will present Respighi’s Four Pieces, a selection from Paganini/Szymanowski’s Capricci, the elegant Tartiniana Seconda by Dallapiccola and Busoni’s Sonata Op. 36a.

Next week, Technopolis 20 organises another concert, this time at its venue and featuring the violin and the cello. The Reflections from Vivaldi to Ravel concert on October 9 features violinist Olivera Rialas and cellist Dusan Stojanovic. Together they will present a programme inspired by Ravel’s piano suite Miroirs (Reflections), moving between Vivaldi, Bach, Handel and later Xenakis, Vujic and Ravel.

Before next week’s concerts take over though, Paphos music lovers will also be able to enjoy an intimate jazz evening at O Linos in Ineia village with Chara Miller and Emilios Patsalides. This Wednesday, musicians Chara and Emilios invite just 30 guests to enjoy a programme of jazz and swing standards blended with covers and arrangements from other genres. The music will begin at 8pm at the vegan restaurant’s dining room.

The music nights in Paphos will continue in November as well and a recital with a unique and special instrument is approaching. Dona Amyrotou and her marimba will perform on November 5 at Technopolis 20 introducing audiences to this peculiar percussion instrument. The evening’s repertoire will be varied, presenting compositions from around the world, giving an old Jukebox-like feeling to the performance. Dona will also perform pieces originally written for the instrument and arrangements from different styles and genres, giving audiences a rich taste of the marimba world.
