WILKES COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A 71-year-old is dead as the result of a fire in Wilkes County, according to the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office.
At around 7:42 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Wilkes County Communications Center was called about a structure and woods fire on the 700 block of Water Fall Road in Millers Creek.
The Wilbar Fire Department, Millers Creek Fire Department, North Carolina Forest Service and Wilkes EMS immediately responded to the scene.
Crews found what they believed to be a deceased person inside the structure once the fire was contained.
The deceased was later identified as Marcia Harrison Houck, 71, of West Jefferson.
The investigation into the fire remains active and is being conducted by the sheriff’s office, Wikes County Fire Marshal’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
