5 juveniles hurt in high-speed chase, crash on Interstate 40 in North Carolina

GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) — Five juveniles are injured after leading Wake County deputies on a chase Monday night, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Interstate 40 for a Hyundai Elantra traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver did not stop, initiating a pursuit.

Deputies say they pursued the vehicle on I-40 near Cary Towne Boulevard when the driver lost control and crashed into a tree. No other vehicles were involved.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver and the four passengers inside the vehicle were all juveniles. They were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was reported stolen, according to the sheriff’s office.

The investigation is ongoing. Deputies said charges are pending.
