The Airports Council International expects global passenger traffic to grow by 10% in 2024, reaching 9.5 billion passengers. This came in its annual report on global airport traffic 2024, which is based on data extracted from more than 2,700 airports in more than 180 countries and territories around the world.
The annual Airport Traffic Report highlighted the resilience and adaptability of the global aviation industry, and demonstrated ACI’s ability to accurately forecast and analyse industry trends, said Justin Erbacci, ACI’s director general.
The report revealed that global passenger traffic in 2023 reached 8.7 billion, an increase of 30.6% compared to 2022, with a recovery of 95% compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
Current estimates put total passenger traffic expected in 2024 at 104% of 2019 levels, with the council forecasting international passenger traffic to reach 4.1 billion by the end of 2024, representing 43% of total passengers, while domestic passenger traffic is expected to reach 5.4 billion by the end of 2024, representing 57% of total global passenger traffic.
